You're synonymous with summer, happiness, innocence.
You're interchangeable with the warmth of the sun on bare shoulders, the cool taste of lemonade on parched lips, the smell of freshly picked berries. You're evocative of a picturesque snapshot of home, family, comfort, love. Yet, you're an unfamiliar concept to so many children in this world.

A thin veil of peach mixed with lemon curd spread across the sky. Thick streaks of lilac and deep blue tendrils weave in and out. A colorful array of warmth and calm lay a back drop thousands of miles away for what stands within arms reach: a dense nest of treetops, their branches shaking gently in the evening breeze.
The trees's arms look like charcoal: strong, thick, black against the night sky. They reach in all directions poised in balletic stances. Their leafy fingers tickling one another as the night air make them dance. Dark sentinels, they tower above with grace and purpose, keeping guard of the advancing darkness that will soon swallow the earth. |
